Roy Dupuis was born in Amos ( Abitibi region ) Quebec, Canada on April 21, 1963. As a child he learned to
play the cello and spent one year studying the martial arts.

Classmates describe Roy as athletic; while in the seventh grade, he participated in track and field, hockey,
basketball, and volleyball. Roy was also known to be a bit on the shy side.

After seeing the movie Moliere, Roy who was studying physics and science  at the time, decided to pursue acting.
Roy was accepted into the National Theatre School of Canada (this was really a fluke, as Roy took the place of  a
friend who had decided not to attend the audition) where he trained for  four years. After graduating,
he appeared in many stage productions including "Romeo and Juliet."

Roy has appeared in several movies including "Being Home with Claude," "Screamers," and "J'en Suis."
Roy also stars in "Hemoglobin" with Rutger Hauer and can be seen with Marlo Brando in  "Free Money."
He has also appeared in several Canadian television series, "Scoop" and "Emily" which earned him the
Gemeaux Award for Best Actor in a Dramatic Series.

Roy's philosophy on acting is as a servant. He believes that you must choose to first serve the writer and then the director.
This means as an actor the giving of your imagination, conscience, body and soul.

The current "love" of Roy's life appears to be the farmhouse he purchased a couple of years ago. It consists of two
small farmhouses (one built in the 1840's, the other the 1870's) that have been joined together.
The home is all wood with a stone basement.

Roy describes the area where he lives as "pretty romantic" and resembling England. Roy's home sits on approximately
50 acres of land. He plans on digging a lake and building a glass house from which he can view the world.
On the weekends, Roy travels back to Montreal and enjoys working on his home, playing outside,
taking care of his dogs, and walking his land. Roy, a tree lover, was upset when an ice storm hit
the Province of Quebec and destroyed 80% of his forest.
Roy's dream is "to create an imprint of myself in my surroundings."

Other things that bring Roy pleasure include travel, ski-diving, and a good meal. Roy enjoys preparing French
cuisine and some of his most loved foods include lamb, lobster, sushi,
and good french fries.

Dupuis rose to fame first in Quebec, having starred in a popular French-language romantic drama series
Les Filles de Caleb. (Emilie) His introduction to english-speaking audiences came in the mini-series
Million Dollar Babies based on the true story of the Dionne quints.

Dupuis' first love was science, and he was studying to be a physicist when he saw a film about French dramatist Moliere.
From that day forward, he changed his focus from science to theatre, and when accompanying a girlfriend to an
audition for a drama school was instead accepted. He cites Armand Gatti, whom he met at the National Theater School,
as being a major influence on his life and his craft. "He would go anywhere where he would see one culture being
oppressed by another one and try to give them a tool to express themselves. Whether it be a movie, book or play.
I got the privilege to work with him and we worked with him for two and a half months.... He is Italian from origin and
moved to France during WWII. His family had moved to the U.S. during WWII. He was a French novelist.
He taught me that the theatrical act takes place in rehearsal. The representation is not just the
conclusion or what the audience sees."

Dupuis is currently a champion of Foundation Mira, a charity organisation based in Montreal that provides seeing
eye dogs for the blind. he has taken part in many fundraisers for the charity, including a celebrity auto race,
where he sat in the passenger seat with a blind driver.

Though flattered by the attention he has received for his various roles, including Michael, Dupuis is less interested in the trappings of fame than he is the quality of the work and perfecting his craft. An intensely private person, Dupuis spends
a great deal of his free time restoring his 19th century farmhouse and, according to his co-star Don Francks, is a
consummate audiophile currently building a personal sound system that rivals anything NASA could put together.
He continues to read texts on science, and in addition to Einstein, also cites Quebecois Rejean Ducharme as
his favourite authors.

His film credits include being At Home With Claude, J'en Suis, Bleeders (aka hemoglobin), Jesus of Montreal,
Waiting for Michelangelo, Passage of free Men (Aire Libre), Screemers, and  Easy Money starring Marlon Brando.
For a full list of his English and French lanugage credits, check out the movie section.

When Roy is not working he goes home to his Farmhouse in the countryside of Quebec, near Montreal.  He recently
bought an 1840s farmhouse. While he enjoys cross country skiing,  skydiving  and other athletic endeavors,
his favorite new hobby is working in and around his home and his newest hobby
that he has discovered is sailing.

Interesting Facts about Roy

Roy Dupuis actually learned to play the cello piece in Gates of Hell. However, for sound mixing reasons, a professionally recorded track of the same piece was used instead.

Celine Bonnier, who portrayed Andrea in Off Profile, was Roy Dupuis' girlfriend.   ( Alot of debate still going on about whether she still is with him. )  but some close sources to RD say they are no longer together.

According to Laurie Drew, LFN's costume designer, Roy has a 10-inch drop, which means that he wears size 42 coats and size 32 pants.

Although born in Quebec's remote Abitibi region, Dupuis spent part of his youth in Kapuskasing in northern Ontario.

Roy has been described by one writer as an enigma "between an angel and an animal."

Roy's father was a salesman for Canada Packers. Roy's mother was a piano teacher.

Roy is a middle child, he has an older sister and a younger brother.

To prepare for his role in Being at Home With Claude, an intense film about a homosexual prostitute who kills his lover in a moment of passion, Roy lost 25lbs and spent a month in the milieu to get a feel for the character.

In Scoop, Gagne (portrayed by Dupuis) was accused of leading a far more interesting life then most reporters. In the first season of Scoop, Gagne went undercover at a prison, travelled with a rock star and romanced
a colleague - the publisher's daughter - into a sizzling encounter atop the boss's desk.

RD boxes in his spare time with buddy and former fighter Dino Clavet to stay in shape.

His acting influences include French author and actor Armand Gatti, Marlon Brando, Tim Robbins and James Dean,
to whom he's often compared.

A bit of a daredevil when he was younger, Dupuis once climbed a radio antenna on a dare. "When I was sixteen or seventeen, I was living in Laval, which is the island beside thecity. One night my friends and I drove our bicycles all the way to the top of Mont-Royal at 3 or 4 a.m. On top of Mont-Royal there's this huge antenna--I mean huge. It's at least 300 feet high. I had seen this antenna many times and said one day I would climb it. And so I did. I climbed to the top of it. I watched the sun comeup from there. It was so beautiful. There's no place in Montreal higher than Mont-Royal. I could see the whole city and its surroundings. Of course, it was dangerous, but that was fun. That's the kind of thing you do when you're sixteen. I couldn't hear my friends. I think they were shouting 'Get down!' "

Is Roy single?

Roy Dupuis is usually very private about his personal life, and almost never talks about it. He has been previously
linked with Marie-José Croze and others. It is a well known fact in Quebec that Roy has been dating Quebecois
actress Celine Bonnier (she portrayed Andrea in Off Profile) for the past few years. Very recently, some
Quebec tabloids claimed that the two have broken up,  Also some very close sources to RD have
stated C.B. and RD  are no longer together and she has moved back to Montreal.
Whether they are still together or are not is anybody's guess.

Former girlfriend, Quebec actress Celine Bonnier. She also portrayed the mother in Million Dollar Babies.  She also works with him in the recent Movie ***The Last Chapter.***

Quotes from Roy

ROY'S FAVORITE QUOTE
**I have nothing to learn, I have things to do**

On love scenes:
Love scenes are always touchy, it is always hard to do. The woman is pretty,
it makes it easier. You take your clothes off, and you are shy, and then three
hours later, you are going around naked on the set.

On marriage:
Marriage comes from religion, so you can make love to a woman under the eyes of God. Today it's like a contract,
politically and economically. I do not feel the need to bring a relationship down to a piece of paper. I mean,
I can be faithful; I am faithful when I love. Love is more important than marriage for me.
I stay with the person I love.

Typical work day:
I'm on the set 14 to 16 hours. I don't even live in my house during the week, because we're shooting in Toronto.
I take the plane home every weekend; it's a one-hour flight.

On LFN fan fiction:
I haven't had the chance to look a lot at it. I've seen a couple things. I find it very interesting.
I find the things said there very intelligent.

What Roy enjoys about Peta:
Her originality, her energy, her talent and her beauty.

What he does to relax:
Going back to my farmhouse. I like to listen to music, read, have some friends over. And I like to cook.
And I feed birds. I like to watch them. Watch over my dogs. Work on my house.

On Michael's greatest strength and his weakness:
The greatest strength . . . his ability to be in control. His biggest weakness . . .I don't think I know it yet.

On his farmhouse:
It's an old 1840 - actually two small farmhouses hooked together - the second was built in 1870. It's all-wood with a stone basement. It was built by the Loyalists when they came up; it was an area mostly colonized by The Loyalists in the states.
The area looks like England. The English had this way of taking the stones out of the fields and using for foundations.
It's pretty romantic . . . It's a nice place, but the ice storm we just had was terrible. It's a rich region, one of the richest
soils in the province of Quebec. It has lovely old trees -- oaks and maples. There's no tourists there. It's mostly
farmers who live there. The neighbors live far from each other. Because of the ice storms, I lost about 80%
of my forest.  They say it'll take sixty years to grow back -- I'm a tree lover. For four days,
all I could hear was branches cracking and trees falling.

On his trip to Turkey:
It was in all the meaning of the word - surprising. The nature was not just beautiful, I saw things I'd never seen.
The people were so generous. The people were wonderful. I saw an early Christian village, ancient drawings
on the church.    It's a very surprising country, and very rich, it gave me alot. Of course,
you have to leave the tourist areas.  You must go further east, the more you'll
encounter the real Turkey.

Favorite LFN Episode:
Of course 'SIMONE'  'WAR'   'NOT WAS'  ' THE SEASON 3 ARC'
'BEYOND THE PALE'   'PLAYING WITH FIRE'   'ON BORROWED TIME'
'THE SEASON 4 ARC'  was fun for me since I could throw in a little bit
more emotion.

The actor he admires:
Of course my first one would go to Marlon Brando. Michele Simone, a French actor.

On Marlon Brando:
I met him this summer and he is very generous. A funny man. He's a god . . . a father for everyone.

On working with Peta Wison:
It's fun. We're friends now, we know each other well, but it clicked from the beginning.
That was one point I wanted to clear up, meeting her helped me to accept the series.

On his hair:
I think there are red strands, but it's not all red. There's some brown, some red, some blond, some white . . .

On pets:
I have a small dog that I bought when I was living with one of my girlfriends.
I found a young German shephard, about a year and a half old. He was beat up,
I took care of him and he stayed. I've had him almost six years. He's amazing.
He's not agressive at all.  His name is Hasard - it means if something between
accident and chance.   He has also recently aquired a cat.

Favorite meal:
Lamb is my favorite meat. I like lobsters, good French fries, sushi. I like alot of things,
I like diversity . . .in everything, even in music.

On cello playing:
I played cello for 7 years. When I was 11 years old, my parents moved to another town.
There was no teacher there, those sever years were almost forgotten.

On TV shows:
I don't have time to watch much TV right now. I mostly look at Discovery or TLC sometimes - I like documentaries.
I'm not addicted to ER yet . . .

If his acting career was over tomorrow, Roy would . . .
If I had enough money right now, I'd have children right now and stay around the house.
