RD in Cap Tourment 1993        The film opens with Alex returning home, to his family after spending several months away. The family seem to have a very close sexual relationship. This is certainly true of Alex and his sister Alpha. Jean-Louis is an old family friend who also returns at the same time as Alex after about 10 years. He also seem to have a relationship with Alpha and possibly had a relationship with both Alex and the mother Jeanne. Against this backdrop there is also tension between the main characters because the Hotel is in debt and this is not helped when the only guests are scared away by Alex. Alpha would like to improve the Hotel and re-open the restaurant, However Jeanne seems to have lost interest in the Hotel and her family. It’s possible she never really got over the death of her Husband several years before. He too was a sailor like Alex. Alex has a drink problem and also reveals to Jean-Louis that he has large debts. He was also involved in drug smuggling, which went wrong and was one of the reasons he returned home. The Young German girl who arrives drifts into a relationship with Alex, although in the end even she cannot handle him. Jeanne cannot understand why Alex always wants to hurt the people who love him. Alpha tells Jeanne that last time Jean -Louis was at the Hotel she became pregnant but did not keep the baby.  Now she is pregnant again by Wilfred a local fisherman and the man from the Bar, this time she is going to keep the baby. In the final scenes the tension that has been between the charters all along finally boils over. Alex presents his mother with the money Jean-Louis gave him. (Jean-Louis knows that Jeanne will not take the money directly from him). Alex tells his mother that now she can pay off the debts, he says that Jean-Louis has given him the money in return for sexual favours. Jean-Lois decides that enough is  enough and forces Alex to leave. Alpha tries to make Alex stay but he knows that they have to separate  if they are to have any life. Jeanne seem to accept that she has to let Alex go.   She then signs the Hotel over to Alpha and leaves to travel the world.
